Rejuvenation of the old urban fishing village at Worli, Mumbai
This project is an attempt to design for the people and with the people to create a sense of place and identity for the old urban village.

The site, Worli Koliwada, a traditional old fishing village, situated within a strong high-end urban center and sea edge context, is declining due to improper services and mismanagement.

The work includes both research and design. The research incorporates the site analysis at both macro and micro levels to identify pockets that need development or redevelopment.

The project envisions a sustainable fishermen neighborhood linked with their identity, ensuring their economic, social and ecological sustenance in a way that speaks of a culture of tradition, quality and dignity.

Through understanding the communities’ day to day manifestations regarding the spatial configuration, as well as the traditional work-live relationship; the design has been translated into an innovative model accommodating all the needs. Thereby, creating a new identity by restoring the traditional character of the village and introducing a platform that enables interaction with the visitors and provide additional employment opportunities to sustain the urban village.
